Ros: Hello, hello. Hello there Travel Agent Achievers. It's Ros here, and I am your host. Today is just me and we are celebrating the Welcome to the 50th episode of the Travel Agent Achievers Podcast.
I am so excited to be here. And before I get started into today's session, I just want to reframe or talk to you a little bit about the 50th episode. This is a big deal, right? When I talked to a number of other people in business, I champion for them. I am so excited about the things that they're doing, and the progress that they're making.
And as I came to today's episode, I had something else completely organised and ready to go out. And I said to my team, you know what, we need to stop and celebrate. So that's what today's episode is all about.
Celebrating the wins in business, whether they are little wins, or whether they are big giant wins, it doesn't matter. But I wanted to have the conversation today around celebrating this new stuff. Because I don't feel as though, as business owners, we do this enough. So the advice, advice.
Over the years, I've received tons, I've worked with business coaches, I've been part of mentoring and mastermind groups, I've surrounded myself with people who continue to inspire and encouraged me. But I've also felt as though at time, I just needed to keep going, I needed to keep driving to the next goal. If I didn't reach that I needed to go on to the next big thing. And my body has told me to stop numerous times.
A lot of you don't know this, but I suffer from migraines. And I have since I was in my early teens. And I'm sure that there's definitely a whole lot of things that I could be doing to look after myself. But I do find that if I am doing too much, if I am trying to do all the things, then my body will tell me to stop. And it literally can knock me out.
It's something that my mum has suffered with her entire adult life as well. And I made the commitment not too long ago now. And no, when I say not too long ago, it was probably been 10 years ago that I said, Enough is enough.
What do I need to do to take care of myself? The advice that I've received over the years is all you should just stop and smell the roses. Make sure you take time for you. Go and reward yourself with something and listen to your body.
Yeah, sure, I could be doing all of those sorts of things. But I am a high achiever. I love working. I love what I do. And so I've found it really difficult at times to set myself a goal. And then once that goal is achieved, celebrating it. I just have felt as though Okay, that's done, tick, move on to the next thing. And this is something that I don't think I'm alone in. And please tell me that I'm not alone if you can resonate with it as well. But more often than not, as business owners. We just keep going. We just push through. And I have spoken to many travel business owners. This is just in the last 12 months alone that have said to me, Ros, I don't want to go back to where I was. I don't want to be sitting on the bathroom floor, crying.
I don't want to feel as though I'm trapped in my own business. I don't want to feel as though I have to do everything for everyone. And there have even been other times that I've been speaking with clients who their physical health This has impacted their business because they physically cannot move. And that breaks my heart.
Because I know, as business owners, we get into this, for all the right reasons, we do this because we love what we do, we are owning our own business with the flexibility, the freedom, the passion, the love. And yet, it may be the one thing that stops us from actually taking the next step, it may be making it sick. Now in in Australia, particularly here, one thing that I have certainly seen is, it's not common to celebrate your success.
It's not very common to share how well you do. It's also not very common to share the really tough times as well. And the you, I want to share that I want to be open with you. I want to let you into my life and my journey, not just as a business mentor, or coach or anything like that. But as a travel business owner, as a mother, as a wife. And I want to share with you, all of the things that make life real.
Things aren't pretty at times.. And they certainly aren't easy. And here in Australia, we don't necessarily share the exciting times as well. Even though you might have somebody who calls you and says How are you? The first thing you might say, Yeah, great. Well, yeah, fine. Yeah, everything's fine. No problem. It's a natural default, that we don't necessarily say, Oh, my gosh, something amazing happened today. But we also don't necessarily say like that we do what we do, because we love it.
And I know that you do a great job in taking care of your clients, and taking care of your family. Maybe not taking care of yourself the whole time. But you do what you need to do. You have to really do you get up in the morning, you have your to do list, you take things off as the day goes, you might go to bed and then get up again and you do it all again.
But you do deserve to feel good about yourself and what you do. But those of you or if you haven't heard the story of Steven Bradbury, he's an Australian short track speed skater. He's also a motivational speaker and does a number of wonderful other things. Now, he's competed in four Olympic Games. And he won the 1000 metre event at the 2002, Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. After all of his opponents, were involved in a last corner, pile up. Imagine that, imagine being that person who won the gold medal. But he was dubbed by the media as the last man standing. And after he crossed that line, and if you haven't heard his story, I encourage that you check him out at Steven Bradbury. He didn't know if he deserved to get up on the podium and accept the gold medal. He didn't know if he should accept it. And he only had a couple of minutes to decide. But he didn't know if he should accept it. For the last 90 seconds of that race. Should we get up on the podium? What will people think of him or people love being out in the end? He did. He did get up on that podium. He did accept the gold medal. And he celebrated the win. For not just that last 90 seconds.
He celebrated the width of the last 12 years of competing at the Olympic level, but also the years and years of work that he had previously done the training to get to where he got to. He has an incredible story. And I have seen him speak a few times over the years. And each time just watching him listening to his story. It gives me goosebumps. But his story also rings true. We hear overnight successes. Yet we don't necessarily hear of all of the work put in previously.
The blood, sweat and the tears. You know what I mean? The things that we talked about out the hard work, how they may have been their own champion. Or they may have had just a small group of people around them, believe in them, to help them keep moving forward.
A lot of people play down their successes, I myself do this, myself included, my husband says to me more often these days than I've ever heard him before. So Ros, when you realise just how good you are, there will be no stopping you. Now, he doesn't mean like stopping me leaving the front door and out and ending our marriage.
He just means that the moment that I get to believe in myself, and accept and acknowledge the things that I've personally achieved, then I will move on to those other areas. And I'll come back to that. But this is, it's getting into a bit of psychology here or goal attainment theory. And there are many books that you can read on this.
But if you don't give yourself credit, and this is just a fundamental thing, so if you don't give yourself credit, if you don't celebrate the small things, you may not, in fact go on to celebrate or achieve the big things, the goals that the dreams, everything that you want in your life.
So I want to encourage you to do this by yourself, and have a think about when was the last time you gave yourself credit for something? When was the last time that you set yourself a goal? you achieved it and you celebrate it? What was that last thing? And did you celebrate it? What did you do? What did you celebrate with? Did you make a booking? And then treat yourself to you know, 30 minutes going reading your favourite book? Or did you put together a website and make it go live? And then share it with your friends and family? Did you make the Miko group trip or put together some experience and celebrate once that had all ended by going out to dinner doing something for you?
I want you to celebrate all the things in life. And I'm going to walk with you on this journey. And I'm going to share with you the things that I celebrate. Because I know that right now, we need more joy in our life. We need more happiness, we need more laughter. And we need to celebrate all of these different things. All the things are what we're going to celebrate.
Over the last 18 months. As you know, I've been working with a ton of different businesses. Yes, travel business owners, because that's where my heart and my passion is, and working alongside you. But also many other disciplines, both small businesses and also large business owners. I've worked with these guys. Anybody who is a solopreneur. So you work by yourself a micro printer. That's somebody who has just a couple of different staff, and then also larger business owners. And I can say one thing, the truth.
My truth here is that no matter where you are, or what stage you are at in business, one thing that I have found across all of the different sizes, when they're new businesses, or whether they have been around for a while, is the ability to share these wins.
So in small business, and this is for you, this is for me, who do you talk to? We all need someone or a group of people who get you and that may not come from your family or your very close networks. Again, I love my husband. But if I am speaking to him, and I know he is one of my biggest cheerleaders, he may not celebrate it the same way I do. But he certainly doesn't jump up and down like I do with all of our team members and with our community.
But I know that he has my back. But it is very different to share a win with him. Compared to my beautiful friend and mentor Lynn. Now when I share a win with Lynn, even if I send her a text message because I know she's going to get excited.
She will call me immediately and she will scream down the phone. And this is a completely different energy. And I had this yesterday when I was asked to step into my own life and this you guys also say you will see this over the next few months. What happens is it all plays out. But I was asked to do something quite big. And it would be a true honour and a privilege for me to do this for somebody else. And I sent a message to Lynn. And when o m g, you're not going to believe what just happened.
She called me immediately. And as we discussed this, she was screaming, I was standing in a coffee shop, and I started laughing hysterically. We were both in fits of laughter, we were screaming like little children excited. And the energy was so different. It lit me up, it made me realise that yes, I can celebrate this moment right now. And as I say this, the energy is very different with my husband and life partner, and also my mentor and brendlin, both have valid, both of them will celebrate the experiences, the moments, and the joy with me.
However, and I know which one I automatically resonate with, and both you know, me here, so you know that I get excited about these sorts of things. But I share this with you. Because more often than not, we will find our tribe, you will find a mentor that gets you, you will find people who understand what it's like to go through the hard things and come through the other side. So if you are looking for your tribe, if you're looking for a virtual, you know, Chief Operating Officer, you know, the new things are a virtual marketing manager, and people who get you or understand you, you might already have these people in your orbit, but they may not necessarily understand the winds in business for you. But make sure you bind the tribe of people around you that understand you that get you and get excited for you.
Find a mentor that is going to champion you and your business. Find the community and the people who get you. And that will celebrate the wins, just like you. Because when things are tough, they will be there for you. They will carry you, they will lift you and they will support you. And when you celebrate a when you celebrate progress, no matter how big or small, you might feel it is they will be the ones to cheer you on. And this is a really common thing that I am seeing that the community is there.
When I hear this, and this is something that came to mind, as I was thinking about this was it takes a village to raise a child, you know that saying I've heard that for years. But I also believe that it takes a community to help you move forward in your business. It takes a group of people to help you propel forward as well. But we don't just need the community, we don't need the people that get you. That's not just one thing.
You need to share it as well. Instead of just keep on doing and doing. Not taking the time to be you to celebrate you and to share the wins, it will bring you down.
So I want you to take a step back. I want you to think about the progress that you personally made over the last 12 months. And I want you to write down your wins, big or small. And so for this 50th episode of Travel Agent Achievers, I wanted to share with you some of the wins that have been shared in our community.
I want to highlight and champion some of the people that I've worked with on to share some of the incredible things that they've done. Because it is awesome. And I want you to put yourself in your shoes as well. Because I know that you have made it. You have made progress. You have taken action to move forward in your travel business. Yes, times have been tough, but you are still here and you are sticking it out. And for that. I want to celebrate you. I want you to think back on the last 12 months.
Sometimes you may not even realise the incredible things that you've done because you've been so busy doing doing doing. You've been so busy just trying to make it through to the next day. There have been tough moments where you can't even see the other side. But you've made it that far. Let's celebrate the things that you have actually achieved. And within our community. We've had people moved First of all shopfont, so their own travel business in a shop rent to a mobile business and still kept their team.
We've had members who have become speakers asked to speak on International Women's Day stages, massive shout out to Kristy and the award that she's also been nominated by the education within her niche, completing travel expos getting new bookings. She's been a podcast guest and she's also written and published a book. So but that's just one thing. Now, we might look at this and go, Wow, how on earth? Have people done these things? How have they done this? And I can say to you, it's through the hard work, determination, the grips, the willingness to get up and keep moving. And the ability to make progress. Nobody is perfect. I'm certainly not perfect. I can be the biggest procrastinator learner.
And I heard this the other day that perfectionism is just procrastination in disguise. And I'll admit, I'm the biggest roadblock for my business. My team will send me emails saying grace, I still need you to approve it. Now there are things that just have to get done. But I see that it's just getting it done. And I know you have made progress as well. So hearing Kristy's story, you know you can listen to the podcast episode as well that we've done with Kristy is just incredible, that she is continually take a one step in front of the other.
Kerstin has done a ton of self education. She's moved into a brand new niche that lights her up. It gives the buyer and the excitement in her belly and she's followed the process. She's secured a very large group contract deal. And she's educating and speaking with different communities, doing the things that she's love.
Erin when I met her just over 12 months ago, maybe longer than that now. And she's now hosting online virtual sessions with suppliers. She's had a first year of business, she's received her very first triple bigger commission check. It's exciting. These things are brilliant when so congratulations, this is amazing.
Teva started her own travel business this year. She created logos terms and conditions, got insurance, got all the right documentation, did the back end of the business, set that up to success that is now enabled her to thrive? When she and I spoke about getting her client goal. At the end, you get this no problem and she was quite resistant. But she has already matched her personal goal in just a few short months. And it is so exciting to see her take off.
Now Sally took a whole group of clients to not because they were supposed to be travelling to Europe. She's done incredible things. She's consistently meeting with them has a whole bunch of things in the pipeline. And I am so proud of her. Sally, I'm proud of you because of the work that you've done, when life has also been thrown at you.
We've had other members, Annette has created websites and lead magnets and systems and helped so many other people. And Michelle has done the same thing. Just opening her heart, her knowledge about blogging. I had Michelle on the podcast as well about post club blogging Academy.
We had so many exciting things happen. Lisa is well guarded aside business but she's still kept her travel business and is such a beautiful hearted woman that has so much love to give and I can't wait to see her flourish in the future. She's already there. And Lisa, you are doing incredible things.
But we've still got so many other members that are consistently showing up that is consistently connecting with their clients. It is so beautiful to see how this small thing could be that you showed up on social media for five times this week. That is something to celebrate. And this is just a small amount of things. For us within Travel Agent Achievers. We have now had our 50th podcast If so, which is this one. Yay, a huge milestone. I know that you guys want this more regularly, and I apologise for the inconsistency over the last 12 months but don't worry we are getting there.
Our systems are all good. It's now just making sure that you are getting exactly what you need to help you in your travel business move forward.
So I want you to take a few moments. What have you done in the last 12 months? What have you done in the last month? What have you done in the last week? Is it that you did a Facebook Live video? Are you thinking of putting together a podcast and so you've done some research on it?
Have you put together a new lead magnet connected with clients, met with people, done some research or training, celebrate all of these moments, because the more that you celebrate these steps, the easier it will become for you to be setting bigger goals. And striving into that. This is the goal attainment theory is driving into those bigger things that you want to achieve. Because right now, you might feel as though that's too far away.
But you might brand can do this, I believe in you, I will champion you. And I can see it, I can see it. And I hear it. You send me the direct messages, you send me email, I know what you're capable of. And you can do these hard things.
So take the time. Is this something that you can jot down at the end of the week? Or you can take a moment to think what have I achieved? What have I done? What can I celebrate? Each month or each quarter? Do you set yourself quarterly goals to say, Okay, I am going to strive to this sales bigger for the next quarter, I am going to connect with this amount of clients. And if I do that, these are the rewards I'll get.
I was just talking to one of my other mentors, Tina, and she was saying sometimes for me, Ros, it's like I'm a puppy. If I write 500 words, or a book, or a blog post, or whatever it might be, I give myself a multigo. And if that's what you need to celebrate those wins, go for it, whatever it looks like for you, you can do this.
If you start celebrating, as I just said, the small things, or the small steps, or just the moments, you're more than likely to continue to do the hardest things. You'll grow as a person, and you'll acknowledge yourself and the achievements that you've made.
But if you find that really hard, I want you to reach out, I want you to get your tribe, I want you to be surrounded by the people who are going to champion you made sure you jump into our Travel Agent Achievers Accountability group on Facebook, that's just Achievers in Travel Accountability.
So that is that Facebook group where we can champion you and we can celebrate you, you can set those goals, be accountable to them, and then celebrate them. Let them be accountable and celebrate.
